Year Founded

Arkansas became the 25th state of America on June 15, 1836

It was in 1913 when they adopted the official flag of this particular state. According to history, Ms. Willie K. Hocker designed it who hails from Wabbaseka in Arkansas. It was in 1926 when they finalized the complete design of the flag. Looking at the flag cautiously, it consists of 4 blue stars, 25 white stars and a huge white diamond shape with important meanings to the people who live here.

The biggest star above is the symbol of Confederacy when the place is still part of it back in 1861-1865. The first star below from the left side represents the countries that owned the state before it become part of the United States alone, which include Spain and France. The second star represents the year when it become a state of America back in 1803 after completing the Louisiana Purchase. While the fourth star below means Arkansas is the third created state of America following Louisiana as well as Missouri.

As for the 25 white stars, they represent the statehood for being the 25th state of the United States. The huge white diamond shape in the middle is the representation of the state gem of the Arkansans, which is diamond.

About the State of Arkansas

Based on history, the first individuals who visited Arkansas are European discoverers or explorers, which include Hernando de Soto of Spain back in 1541. He also visited the famous Hot Springs National Park, which became a Federal Reservation in 1832. However, the first settler who lived permanently in this state is Henri de Tonti. This person hailed from France and resided at the Arkansas Post.

Under the Louisiana Purchase agreement, it was in 1803 when the United States took control of this particular state. In June 15, 1836, it achieved its statehood from America as the 25th state.

The exact location of Arkansas is within the Southern area of America and with geographical ranges from the regions of Ozark and Ouachita and Ozark (both mountainous regions in the US highland territory). This state is the 29th when largest states in the US with almost 3,000,942 population as of 2016.

However, it is only the 32th most populated states in the country and with a land area of 53,182 square miles. When talking about its neighboring border states, these include Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The origin of the name Arkansas came from the “Quapaw Indians” and they consider it as the “Natural State.” The Arkansans have an original slogan “Regnat Populus” or this means, “The People Rule.” They use AR for the postal code and Ark for the abbreviation of the state. Little Rock is the biggest capital and the largest city as well. It has 75 counties, 51 state parks, 2 national forests and 1 national park.

The Arkansans recognize the Apple Blossom as their state flower, Mockingbird as state bird, White-Tailed Dear as state mammal, Honeybee as state insect, Quartz Crystal as state mineral, Diamond as state gemstone, Fiddle as state instrument, Loblolly Pine as state tree. They also recognize Milk as their state beverage, Vine Ripe Pink Tomato as state vegetable/fruit, The Holy Bible as state book and “Arkansas” as state song.

The Arkansas State is very popular when talking about different food products because it has the largest manufacturing companies on this industry. They consider it as one of the biggest producers of rice, soybeans, chicken and cotton in the country. Of course, it also produce huge amount of electronic equipment, paper products, furniture, diamonds, aluminum and other mining products.

This state also produced the 42nd United States President William Jefferson “Bill” Clinton who hails from Hope and born on August 19, 1946. Clinton serves his fellow Americans as the head of the White House from 1993 up to 2001.
